Thirty years ago, the first movie of the Back to the Future trilogy came out. Directed by Robert Zemeckis and starred by Christopher Lloyd, Michael J. Fox, Lea Thompson, Crispin Glover and Thomas F. Wilson.
However, what makes October 21st, 2015 Back to the Future Day is that in the sequel (Regreso al Futuro II) this is the date Marty and Doc Brown travel to correct Marty's family and children's future. Upon arriving to Hill Valley 30 years in the future they see so many changes. Changes we've been expecting. For example, we see that the law system is so quick since "all lawyers have been supressed", cars fly, men wear two ties, skate boards are now hover boards, sneakers tie themselves and clothes adjusts and dries itself.
It was imposible not to compare our 2015 to their depiction in the movie. I'm sure yesterday you all had abundance of posts, articles, videos, comparisons and such on your newsfeeds and I won't post them here. I just wanted to acknowledge this day as something interesting and special. I believe part of the fascination is that, contrary to many other sci-fi movies, this depicted a future so within our reach jumping only 30 years and not entire centuries. All the original actors are around to see it and take part in the homages, spoofs, videos, presentations such as the Nike sneakers Marty wears. Also, I'm glad they've been around to see how much of a fandom the trilogy has and the love all fans still have for them.
I honestly can't remember how old I was when I saw the movies but I do know they've always been a part of my life. At the same time, it's been awesome that they were also part of my husband's lie. A few years ago I gave him a scale model of the DeLorean (accurate to the first movie - I need to get the other two) and we also have the DVD's and Wii Game. Treasured possesions, indeed. Besides, a few months ago we were able to go to the Universal Theme Parks in Orlando and were able to see the car and the train from the third movie.
Yesterday, he posted his picture with the DeLorean and we had a pizza for dinner just like the one Lorrain hydrates in the movie. Those were our little gestures to celebrate this movies we catch every single time they're on, these characters that makes us feel so good and the fantasy of a better future for everyone.
This morning I saw that Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd were on the set of Jimmy Kimmel Live!. Here's the amazing video:
Besides participating in this, they were in a Toyota video about clean fuel and other stuff. Yesterday morning we all woke up to a video from Doc Brown himself on the Official Facebook for the Trilogy with a beautiful message:"Your future if whatever you make it. So make it a good one".
